Beards have long been seen as a kind of mainstream anti-statement and as career suicide. The beard has long been a symbol of ‘letting go’ and attributed to the shady, dishonest or impoverished man. In 1960’s counterculture beards were sported by beatniks and hippies.
Now the unheralded fashionable return of the beard has sprouted amongst urban city life, sported by young men in trendy cafes and bars rather than aged low-lives. A certain curiosity is evoked observing youthful eyes and skin shrouded by the ominous beard
